CURRENT TRENDS, ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN DIVERSE SOCIETIES
2-DAYS VIRTUAL CONFERENCE, 6-7 MAY, 2022

An idea that was initially launched at physical presence level by Dr Eirini Daskalaki, is now organized virtually due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Still, the notion of bringing cultures together on common grounds or international human communication, exchange of ideologies and creating opportunities for a more prosperous future world, is what underlines the character of this conference!

Filomathia Greek language Centre is proud to be a collaborator and co-organizer of this event contributing to establishing this institution as a recurrent opportunity to align different voices under the idea of humanity evolution.

On 27th March 2021 Filomathia-Greek Language Centre presented live the introductory mini-course "It's fun to learn Greek" at EXPOLINGUA online!

Courses for children

Pricing

 

Especially designed for young learners, these programs combine language and culture in a fun, recreational way that keeps children busy and interested!

More specifically:

• We open different classes according to language level of participants

• We use books approved by the Ministry of Education and also provide extra material

• We involve story-telling, music and other cultural activities in class (i.e. mythology, singing or dancing and more)

• Amount of time: 15 hours a week (suggested plan: 3 hours per 5 days or as agreed with parents/guardians)

• Children together with their parents/guardians might choose to spend some of these 15 hours on extra cultural activities outside school, for example a visit to the Old Town of Chania, a visit to a museum or attend a cultural performance accompanied by their teacher

• Cost*: 440 € per week (discount available for siblings or if you choose to enroll for more than a week)

• After this course and if lessons continue (either in class or via Zoom) for a significant period, children can sit the exams of Certificate of Attainment in Modern Greek (εξετάσεις πιστοποίησης ελληνομάθειας, ΚΠΓ)

Courses available from April to late October every year!

*The amount covers tuition fees and extra material provided in class. It does not include students’ books or tickets to museums and performances.

This is a short story written by one of our students, based on a picture shown in a language book used in class. The student's name cannot be revealed, of course, but those who attend our school might guess given that he is a doctor and comes from Bavaria.... Γεια σου, Νίκο!

"Μετά (από) μια μπίρα, ένα κρασί και ένα ρακί, αυξάνονται οι φαντασίες και τα λάθη. Συνεπώς, μην θυμώσεις (μήνυμα προς την δασκάλα).

Οχτώμισι το πρωί. Ιούλιος. Το πλοίο μόλις είχε ξεκινήσει από τον Πειραιά. Η αδελφή Θεοδώρα άρχιζε μια καινούργια ζωή. Χτες το βράδυ ο αδελφός της την ερώtησε: "Πόσες ζωές θα έχεις αγαπητή;" Απάντησε, "Μόνο αυτή, αλλά αυτή θα αρχίσει αύριο το πρωί."

Δεν μπορούσε να περιμένει πολύ. Ο ήλιος εξαφανίστηκε πίσω από ένα μαύρο τοίχο. Η καταιγίδα ήρθε με θύελλα. Μπήκε μέσα αλλά δεν υπέφερε. Έπρεπε να κάνει εμετό. Βγήκε στο ύπαιθρο, κρατήθηκε σφιχτά από την κουπαστή. Κρύωνε, ήταν βρεγμένη, είχε τάση για εμετό, ήθελε μόνο να σκοτωθεί.

Δεν ήξερε πόσες ώρες ήταν στην αγωνία. Κάποτε ήρθε ο ήλιος. Η θάλασσα ησύχασε και (εκείνη) κοίταξε το φρούριο του Ηρακλείου. Αργότερα ήταν καθισμένη σ'ένα κήπο ενός μικρού ξενοδοχείου και έβλεπε τα λουλούδια, τα πράσινα δέντρα, άκουγε τα τραγούδια των πουλιών και ασθάνθηκε ότι η ζωή είναι θαυμάσια."
